Twenty Yutong electric buses and coaches have begun service in Macau, taking the manufacturer’s share of the electric bus market in Macau to 78 per cent. Of the current 2,700 electric buses and coaches in Macau, 1,400 have been supplied by Yutong.

The latest 20 electric vehicles include eighteen 11m coaches and two 10m city buses used on tourist routes in Macau.

The 11m coach is designed specifically for Macau, and Yutong claims that its IP68 protective level makes it impervious to water for 24 hours, even when submerged, making it perfect for the rainy and stormy days that are typical in Macau.

The 10m city bus was originally designed for the European market, and features Yutong’s BusEYE Pro driver assistance system which provides forward collision warning, pedestrian collision warning, headway measurement warning and lane departure warning.

“At Yutong, we design for different needs in different markets,” says Jin Yong, Asian division general manager, Yutong Bus. “Macau has very crowded roads and humid weather. So, we try to solve those problems and more when designing for the market.

“In addition, we have four service stations in Macau that can cover almost every Yutong electric bus in operation.”

To date, Yutong Bus claims to have achieved total sales of 90,000 ‘new energy’ buses in France, UK, Bulgaria, Iceland, Chile, and China.
