Major order for electric Citeas for Eindhoven
VDL Bus & Coach is to deliver 40 Citeas SLFA Electric in December 2016 as part of a plan for the city of Eindhoven to go fully electric by 2020.
Transdev-owned bus operator Hermes, part of Connexxion Nederland, has won the Zuidoost-Brabant tender and in addition to zero emission aims, the concession includes ambitious targets in the areas of sustainability, innovation and mobility.
The 18.1m VDL Citea SLFA Electric artics will be branded ‘Evolans’ and will operate on high-frequency lines in a tram-style system to key destinations in Eindhoven, such as Eindhoven Airport and the High Tech Campus.
In addition to the order for approximately 40 Citeas SLFA Electric, Hermes has also ordered 65 Citeas SLE (Volans) from VDL Bus & Coach for the introduction of the first stage. These buses are needed to convert part of the current diesel fleet to Euro 6 versions to achieve a cleaner transition to zero emission.
