New crossing boost for Edinburgh tourism
One of Scotland’s most popular tourism operators is rebranding one of its tours to help boost local and visitor interest in the new Queensferry Crossing over the Forth.
Edinburgh Bus Tours, which is operated by Lothian Buses and claims to be Scotland’s second most popular paid-for attraction, has launched an updated ‘3 Bridges’ bus and boat experience as the new Queensferry Crossing nears completion.
The new tour marks the start of Edinburgh Bus Tours’ summer season which runs until 29 October. At the height of the season, 185 tours per day depart from Waverley Bridge across all four tour operations operated by the company.
The three-hour tour takes in Edinburgh’s West End highlights before travelling to South Queensferry. Customers are then transferred on to the Forth Belle boat for a tour under the three bridges, with an optional stop at Inchcolm Island.
“As the Queensferry Crossing completion nears, the re-brand of our bus and boat experience marks the start of this year’s summer season,” says Nigel Serafini, commercial director, Lothian Buses. “The opening of the new bridge has created a great amount of interest in its construction phase and we’re sure that will continue once it opens.
“Edinburgh Bus Tours is a huge contributor to Scotland’s economy and as the second most popular paid-for attraction we were delighted at the recent announcement of a 15 per cent increase in Scottish tourist visits.”
Manuela Calchini, VisitScotland regional director for Edinburgh, The Lothians and Fife, adds: “Edinburgh Bus Tours' new route will offer a fantastic way to experience the Forth’s iconic structures, including a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Forth Bridge and of course, the new Queensferry Crossing.
“The opening of the new bridge has generated much interest and it’s brilliant to see the tourism industry tapping into the potential, as a destination, of the whole area around the bridges.
“It is also important that tourism in Scotland continues to embrace innovation and new ways of working in order to compete in a busy global market – Edinburgh Bus Tours’ ‘3 Bridges’ tour is a great example of this.”
Rated a five-star experience by VisitScotland since 2011, the Edinburgh Bus Tours has more than 170 staff including ticket sellers, tour drivers, visitor advisors and guides who are all trained in-house. As well as the ‘3 Bridges’, the company offers three other sight-seeing tours in Edinburgh; Edinburgh Tour, Majestic Tour and CitySightseeing Tour.
